Isaac Del Toro Romero was born on 27 November 2003 in Ensenada, Baja California — a city with more of a surfing reputation than a cycling one. His father, an amateur cyclist, introduced him and his brother to the sport early, and Del Toro competed across mountain biking, cyclocross, and road racing before eventually focusing on the road. He turned professional with UAE Team Emirates in 2024 after a standout 2023 season that included winning the Tour de l'Avenir — becoming the first Mexican to claim the race, and the first rider ever to sweep all four classifications in a single edition.
His 2025 season announced him to the wider world. He won Milano-Torino in the spring, then rode into the Giro d'Italia and wore the maglia rosa for the better part of three weeks — the first Mexican ever to lead the race — before eventually finishing second overall behind Simon Yates. Nicknamed "El Torito" (The Little Bull) for his aggressive, attack-first style, he drew early comparisons to teammate Tadej Pogačar. At 21, with a contract running to 2029 and a UCI ranking of third in the world, the comparison no longer feels premature.
